Halloween

OK, something else that didn't make the list but you can't possibly have a year of silly things without mentioning....HALLOWEEN!

The children were invited to a Halloween party with friends from school, which is always a dressing up opportunity.

           

And it was there that the real silliness began, I discovered that;

Apple Bobbing + Euan + silly Halloween mood + glass of red wine = 

VERY silly moment worth blogging!

So, to set the scene there was a bucket of water with apples bobbing on the top (as you might expect).  Various children had tried and failed to nab an apple, mostly because the water was deep, icy cold and the bucket was 'flexible' so no pushing it up against the side technique possible.  Euan challenged me to bob (so to speak) and I rather spectacularly bobbed in and came up triumphantly with apple delicately hanging by the stalk from between my teeth.  Euan's response 'The stalk doesn't count!'

Now, it was a pride thing (Euan and I have history!) so I determined to get an apple despite the fact that this meant plunging my entire head into a bucket of icy water in order to bite into the apple against the bottom of the bucket.  Removed glasses and comedy halloween bat ears and stuck head into bucket.  (I always knew I didn't bother with make up for a reason)    Came up sans apple - but gasping for air like a fish (bloody hell it was really, really cold)  Down again with Sarah holding my hair and various admonishments not to drown and this time......SUCCESS!!!  Sopping wet hair, face, jumper but with hard won apple gripped triumphantly between my teeth.
