OK, best get this one fully accounted for!
Last Tuesday, I finally managed to arrange to catch up with my very good friend, ex colleague and drinking partner Jolyon Roberts. Somehow, being with Jolyon has always rendered my 'I think you've had enough' voice completely dumb (or perhaps he talks over it - I have heard him referred to as Gob-erts before now)
Anyway, the plan was to go to Wagamamas - a shared bottle of wine, some noodles, a mid week early night, but.....NO! Jolyon (yes it was he) suggested that we just pop into All Bar One for a drink first. Well we set about putting the world to rights with many glasses of red wine and some bar nuts and then suddenly it was almost 11pm. Too late for noodles - but hey just enough time for some more wine.
We left the pub to stagger home and lo and behold the route home took us past The Prince of Wales and it's midnight license! I have no idea what we talked about in there, but I'm sure it included 'You are my BESHT friend' and 'We must do this more often' with probable reminiscing of other benders we have been on.
Jolyon walked to my door (bless - probably worried I couldn't find it) and I have a definite recollection of playing online scrabble?????????? (Dear God I know how to have a good time). In bed there were room spinning, not earth moving, moments and (going to say this in a big rush) I had to get up and drive the big white bus (mmmmm red wine & bar nuts)
OK, I have definitely been more drunk than this, and more outrageous when drunk (on-line scrabble per-lease) but I am declaring it done as I really didn't enjoy it. I LOVED the evening, but the room spinning, bus driving bit was grim, and I was winning NO prizes for tolerant mother of the year at 5.30 on Wednesday morning.
Never again? Well obviously not, but it's done ........ for now!
