A missed opportunity?

OK, so last night the year 1 yummy mummies met for Christmas drinks. Now, I have a problem with Christmas drinks in November, but someone had gone to the trouble of organizing it, notes in the book bag and EVERYTHING so I decided it would be rude not to.

Scanning the list it seemed that number 3 (fancy dress) and number 13 (getting drunk!) were the only 2 possible contenders. Now, the fancy dress was tempting, there is something about a lot of mummies in one place which makes me want to rebel and I just know that it would be considered very odd indeed :-) However, I am already considered something of a lose cannon at the school gate and I wondered if this might be playdate suicide. (Playdates for the uninitiated are wonderful inventions where someone else picks up your child from school, takes them home to play like a loon with their child, feeds them, and brings them home in time for bed) I really love playdates (sigh) so postponed number 3 in the hope that number 13 was practically obligatory under the circumstances!

However, I was thwarted once more (I'm sure in my 20s I never had to plan to get drunk - it just happened to me.... a lot) by the fact that I was sitting between my beloved diet partner who was gamely drinking diet coke and a pregnant mum and it just seemed (whispers) inappropriate (sigh) So 2 glasses of red wine (which did leave me a bit tipsy - I am such a lightweight) a few surreptitious sips of sickly cocktails (other peoples) and a load of riveting gossip (is it true that 1L are ALL going to be pumpkins in the christmas show) and I slunk home to bed.

Better luck next time?
